Description

Google Voice gives you a free phone number for calling, text messaging, and voicemail. It works on smartphones and computers, and syncs across your devices so you can use the app while on the go or at home.

You’re in control
Forward calls, text messages, and voicemail to any of your devices, and get spam filtered automatically. Block numbers you don’t want to hear from.

Backed up and searchable
Calls, text messages, and voicemails are stored and backed up to make it easy for you to search your history.

Chat in groups, with photos
Send group texts and share photos instantly.

Your voicemail, transcribed
Google Voice provides free voicemail transcriptions that you can read in the app or have sent to your email.

Cheap international calling
Make international calls at competitive rates without using your mobile data.

Keep in mind:
• Google Voice is currently only available in the US
• All calls made using Google Voice for iPhone use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan
• Calls are placed through a US-based Google Voice access number, which may incur costs (e.g. when traveling internationally)

Worthless garbage
CoG| Lucifer on 8/18/2017
If i already had a working phone, i wouldnt need this PoS to take it's place. But you can only register, if you have a working phone. Another homerun, from the dipshits at google.
Sadly not a quality app, sluggish to the point of not usable. Unreliable with call placement too.
Dddvvvzzz on 8/17/2017
I am a long-term GVoice user 9 years into that, but it is obvious that Google is no longer sees GVoice as strategic. Launching app like this one without Alpha pre-fix is not honorable. Too bad that another great idea is about to bite the dust. Change is constant but it is not always for the better. Need to start porting out of GV.
Fantastic app
Jan_Jed on 8/16/2017
Could be faster but overall very happy with the steady stream of improvements
Worthless

Could they make this app more confusing and worthless? No.

I use to have no problems with this app. Then one day it stopped letting me make calls. Every time I try to make a call from this app it says "We could not complete your call - Please try again". I tried uninstalling it & reinstalling it. That didn't help at all. I'm beyond frustrated with this horrible app!
Almost happy
OrioleDoc on 8/14/2017
FIX THE MMS ISSUE!! I have been using Google Voice for years so I do not have to give clients my personal cell number. I was so happy to finally see an update (please update more often) and so happy that update included MMS support. Also please bring back the Quick Dial list. That was so convenient.

I trying it out it probably is going to be the best app ever had Love it
Free and indispensable
Eric the Nay on 8/13/2017
Ok, there are issues with this app, but the service is so vital to my family that I would literally pay Google every month to use this app. Google Voice gives you a phone number that you can fully access over wifi, on an iPad, or on an old phone that has no carrier service. You can use it to text, call, or use in any way. That is awesome! My kid was 5 and I got her a number. That let her text her aunt and uncle! Add in the controls to turn off the ringer during quiet hours, or to block individual numbers, and GV becomes vital!
Works great

I really like it
Option to choose outgoing call
Crashes all time !!!!!!!! on 8/13/2017
This is really frustrating that for the outgoing call I can't change my settings to 'ask me every time' from regular dial pad like android.
Great but could be better
guerrerojoven on 8/12/2017
Pro's / Con's 1. The app is now slowing down and taking too long to function, also freezing. 2. Feature: "Mark as Unread" is done away with. Please bring it back. It helps with adequately getting back to people, after opening and reading their message or voicemail. Tip for users: you can download gv connect, and mark messages "unread" in the meantime, as a side app function for google voice. 3. In the "add to contact" section, it would be great if you can leave the phone number in its prior format: 555-555-5555, without the parenthesis. It helps with copy/paste/search in several ways, and in other apps, including your own app. You can't copy and paste the number to see all history of the number in the actual google voice app. (text/vm/calls) 4. Photo option is awesome! 5. Provide an easy way to send feedback to developers, to improve the app. From the other options of apps that work with google voice, this is still the most convenient for me. If it functioned faster like its previous versions, that would be great!
Disappointing, buggy, a low priority for Google
neal_fan on 8/12/2017
Updated for version 2.5 in June 2017 — The GV app may have improved internally, but bugs remain: the keypad is unusable for tapping out a phone number; performance is GLACIALLY SLOW throughout, from refreshing messages in text conversations to updating contact names in calls and conversations. Very disappointing, Google! Updated for version 2.1 in early 2017 — Finally, Google gives some love to this old, old, old app! Pros: streamlined interface, iPad version, now send and view photos in messages Cons: SLOW, SLOW, so slow it seems like the app has crashed sometimes; user interface for calling and messages is cumbersome and confusing Overall, a mixed bag: welcome catch-up improvements; frustrating performance; confusing user interface elements; rating unchanged at 3 stars ========== Updated for version 1.6 in 2015 — OBVIOUSLY no longer a priority. Evidence #1 — the app icon changed in v1.6, but the App Store icon is the OLD one, not the new one Evidence #2 — bugs! example: when composing a text message, iOS 8’s QuickType suggestions cause the Send button to overlay the character count. Sad . . . ========= Once upon a time, this was a great app. Once upon a time… Now, in 2013 it's obviously no longer a priority for Google. Key features are missing and only available from the web site. Among the most important IMHO, is the ability to block a caller. The only way to block a SPAM caller is to go to the web site — what could be a simple setting for the app is just missing in action. Google is definitely neglecting Voice…
Awesome!
Maxakabill on 8/11/2017
Thanks for the great service google! No complaints from me, and I actually use it a decent amount. Keep up the good work.
Why did you remove the favorites?
BoDayCeOus on 8/10/2017
Removing the favorites makes it a lot harder to operate and make quick calls. Also, it has been crashing a lot. I always send the crash reports. What is the status of the fix?
Still crashes on iPhone 6
GreenTechFusion on 8/10/2017
Constantly crashes on iPhone 6 and I can't use the web based version anymore either. It is caught in loop. I expect crap coding and apps from Micro$oft but not Google.
An OK start...
jasondunn on 8/10/2017
This app is pretty decent and it's nice to see Google investing in Voice again. The app is slow though and takes forever to initiate the sync with Google Voice and pull down new messages. It needs some serious speed tuning...
Most glitchy app I've ever used on iOS
Mofopaloozastockfest on 8/9/2017
Please use the crash reports sent multiple times a day to prevent this app from crashing so much. Thanks!
Big changes have been made
Tpearson02 on 8/8/2017
Just realized that there was a major redesign and its back to its former glory. While everything isn't perfect I finally can use all the features that were missing before. Looks good i guess i will atop using hangouts.
Glitchy unread count
rlwinm on 8/8/2017
The app is Ok, but it's almost always badged with an unread notification. Even if I open the app, switch to a conversation, and reply, it still might consider the conversation unread. I find myself constantly opening it and tapping through conversations just to clear the unread bit.
Needs Signature Feature
Gingeredit on 8/8/2017
I love Google Voice for its accessibility when I use it for work. The fact that I can have one device with two numbers is very efficient. The one thing I wish I could do is put a signature on the end of my text messages just like at the end of an email. This would really be effective when sending clients reminder texts for appointments. Please make this happen Google!
It's alright
Ихмат on 8/7/2017
I have recently started making calls through my GV number. When I dial a number from my contact using GV app it does not show the contact name or number. Instead of contact name it's providing a random number to be displayed on my screen. Other phones like android have option under setting called "outgoing call" sth like that. But google voice app for Iphone does not have that option. Is there anyway I can set this app in that way it shows actual contact name I am dialing to?
Basically a Joke
Shutter41 on 8/6/2017
Crashes constantly, interface is glitchy, texts often just fail to send for no reason. It's a joke, but sadly there aren't really any other options if you want to do what Google Voice can do.
Needs work
WickedWeiland on 8/6/2017
Interface and alerts need a lot of work. Why does it alert me to my own message?? Also, need Apple Watch notification ability. Great service, cruddy app. COME ON GOOGLE!!
IMPOSSIBLY SLOW
Liowik on 8/6/2017
You must optimize for speed! It literally takes 7 to 8 full seconds just to go from page to page. We don't all have the absolute latest phone so you must test with slower phones too.
Slow and sluggish
tr1xjolly on 8/6/2017
A real pain to use because the interface is constantly lagging and you have to click things a few times just to get a response. Please fix.
Zero Stars: Unusable/Major Perf Issues
UX Villain on 8/5/2017
I don't write app reviews, but I'm so frustrated by this 'big bang' version I feel I must weigh in. A Material Design skin does not an app make! Although I disliked the pre-Marerial version for its rather sad user interface and that it was essentially neglected for years, the new version is utterly UNUSABLE. It is plagued with usability, functional and performance issues. Was this even tested on device(s)? I even restored my iPhone 5s to factory settings to make sure it wasn't my hardware. It was not. What's really sad is that an engineering driven company such as Google let this go out. I'm seeking an alternative for my Google voice number. Apple ignoring hardware, Google ignoring software. What's next? For all the growth UX/Product design has seen, most apps/platforms are still essentially user rage factories. Do better!
Crappy App
SFO21 on 8/5/2017
gvoice is excellent but the mobile app is crap. desktop version is not accessible from phone or pad. i have to use a computer for full functionality.
Bad notifications & doesn't mark as read
Career Enthusiast on 8/5/2017
I do a lot of texting on my Google Voice and I miss messages all the time because the app doesn't provide notifications consistently. When you do open a text, it often doesn't mark as read until you open it a certain way (go back to list of messages, click that message again, scroll to refresh). It is also impossible to add a contact when you get a new number. Pressing "Add to contacts" does nothing. Because of these things, it's unreliable. I'm surprised that this is a Google product. Update: This app has gotten worse. Updated review to 1 star. It's crashing constantly and notifications have gotten worse. I'm on the lookout for a good third party replacement.
Slow and Sluggish
steerpike77 on 8/4/2017
How many times do I have to tap something before it responds?
Unread text isn't marked as read
Naldi_k on 8/4/2017
If coming from push notification to read new text, it doesn't mark that message as read. Instead I had to go to main list and explicitly tap the row to do so.
Glitchy and freezes on iPhone
PeakPerformancePCServices on 8/4/2017
I've used this app on android for years with no problems. Just switched to iPhone and the UI freezes often for about 2-5 seconds. I hope an update fixes this issue soon. Great app otherwise.
Poor

Quite slow...
Hjuk314 on 8/3/2017
I've been using Google Voice for years and now all of a sudden it's functioning slow , and I can't make calls and every time I text it keeps saying try again (so many times )
Now can't make calls
Mikemmmm561 on 8/3/2017
With the latest update it has taken away my ability to make any outgoing calls. I can't make calls from my recents by clicking "call xxx-xxx-xxxx" nor does manually entering the number work. The interface is extremely slow which is annoying. No reason to continue using it until they fix it.
The worst "upgrade" I've ever seen
Gggggreenivated on 8/3/2017
This is not trivial to me. I have built a communications network for my small business based on the quality of the old google voice and the new version is so bad I sometimes can't even place a call with it! It is painfully slow--like it takes minutes, not seconds to switch tabs. I am having trouble responding to clients as a result. This is the worst development I have ever seen in a Google product and it's causing me head aches. I feel trapped. Unhappy.
Slow and crashes
denkelly on 8/3/2017
It was always a little bit jerky but it downright stinks now. Once I open the app it takes too long before I can use it and it takes too long to respond to my inputs. Overall it really stinks. But it's just this latest version. It wasn't always this bad.
Crashes constantly
MrYummyStuff on 8/2/2017
The older version worked better. Please fix.
This app is garbage now
jaxmansen on 8/2/2017
This is my work phone and before the update it was fine, it wasn't pretty but it was completely functional. Not it is crap, you got rid of starring messages which was a big help, the keyboard is a mess and never works, I end up having to dial multiple times before I can make a call, and it is slow and laggy as all get out. Please fix this garbage update.
Crashes often
SmallWeirdNumber on 8/2/2017
Needs to be stable. Right now pretty unusable.
Battery drained
Akashalynn13 on 8/2/2017
Ever since I downloaded this my iPhone battery goes so fast and it won't charge when plugged in. Takes a full night to get a full charge. I have to use this app for work. Also why doesn't it transfer the contacts from the app to online? Please fix this.
Doesn't mark messages read
cjduckk on 8/2/2017
While I love that group messaging and MMS (FINALLY), but I wish reading an SMS reliably marked the message as read. I constantly have to open an SMS 2 or 3 times, scroll up in the message, scroll back down, exit the message, refresh the list, sometimes rinse and repeat, before it will mark the message as read. Yeah, I could mark ALL messages as read, but what if all messages are not yet read? Even adding the ability to manually mark an individual message as read by swiping left or right from the message list would be helpful.
O o o, when will this fiasco be over, or give back the previous version.
DutchFriend on 8/1/2017
Update 1aug17 Still the same unfriendy organized nervy system. I don't care which channel a contract uses to contact me. I do care that I lose sight because I need to look in messages, calls and recordings separately. That is insane inefficiency. Talk to me Google. Your bad work and now your anonymity is frustrating. Update 26apr17... Even after many weeks of being forced to use this bad 👎 new version of this important app and the ultimate wish to just give us the previous version back... Still no improvement. That is sad Google!!! When are you going to improve your release process? I will be happy ☺ to help test too. Thanks. Sometime in the past... So sorry... It is super inefficient to split the channels. We all work with people and need to see all communication with one person, whether it is phone call or text or recording, all nicely in one log in time sequence, as it was before!!! Not to speak of how bad the performance of this version is. Waiting for half a minute to be able to use the search feature which is the only alternative. Please do proper research among real users and divvy take away that they need. Thank you @Marcelspitz
Shockingly horrible
rlieving on 8/1/2017
The "new" version of the app is horrible. Who at Google performs the usability tests? I would LOVE to make GV my primary Google Voice app. But it lacks iOS URL support. This app frequently doesn't update when you are in the app - even when the user *SENDS* texts. The interface is clunky and I sometimes midevial. There isn't a favorites and getting to archived texts is hard. Where is the VOIP calling? This version of the app is also incompatible with "classic" GV, which means that the Chrome extension is broken. I'd love to convert to Hangouts, but it too seems stuck in the gray zone. No chance to import history. The UI is also terrible. No URL support. Overall a disappointment. Just pick a platform Google. Make it good. Please.

Crashes and security issues
CaptainJck22 on 7/30/2017
I really want to love this app, I have to use it daily. However it seems that despite all their updating (finally) the app is still clunky and full of bugs. The app constantly cashes when I'm coming back to it and it always hangs up when refreshing the conversations list. To top it all off there is NO option to turn off message preview meaning I can't get notifications if I want to be secure...unacceptable these days when everyone (including Google!) wants you to use things like two factor authentication. Awful.
So crashy
NoCrapApps on 7/30/2017
Google really needs to get its act together. They seem completely adrift in their direction and this clumsy, crashy app is the lately evidence. Instead of desperately trying to copy Apple they need to get back to being google and building better software. Very disappointed by them lately
Possibly the slowest iOS app
TreeSalmon on 7/30/2017
The latest major update of the iOS Google Voice app took it from a visually outdated experience to an equally outdated visual experience. The major difference is that the app is now so staggeringly slow, it's barely usable. When a new text arrives, you open the app, and wait second after second to see even the main list update. Then you tap the conversation and begin the waiting process for the conversation to update with the new text. Also, the dialing interface using contacts is clumsy and counterintuitive. Searching old texts is both sluggish and confusing. It's like the app was designed as a test of patience.
SUPER SLOW. Google destroyed it
ThisApp$&@")% not very good on 7/29/2017
Super Slow and worst now: HOW SLOW? It takes exactly one minute for the search box to be ready to take any word to search, then it takes exactly another minute for the results to appear, then it freezes and then it takes another minute for it to loosen up and let you scroll up the results. I'm using you app on iPhone 5, but all my friends are experiencing the same in the iPhone 6 and 7, what is wrong with Google. UNISTALL IT OR: Stay away from it or don't get the January update. Version 2.3 was the LAST BEST, after it the next updates destroyed google voice. Google don't listen, this is The most Mediocre programming I've ever seen: The Search box freezes/crashes everywhere. All functions are SLOW!!! and Original features folders ARE NOW GONE! See, NOT MORE: 1.Recorded calls folder 2.Placed calls folder 3. Received calls folder 4.Missed calls folder 5.Unread calls folder 6.Spam calls/text folder 7.Trash folder 8.Starred folder 9.Inbox folder 10.Voicemail folder! Google have destroyed this nice app and turn it into the horrible hangouts which is as slow as this one is now and lacking all of the above features, GOOGLE HAS INSULTED IS USERS WITH THIS fake UPDATE, it just destroyed Google Voice and gave you nasty-mediocre hangouts disguised now as the new Google Voice! F**u Google for ignoring us! Mediocre programming and programmers! Will Uninstalled it today.
