Description

Google Voice gives you a free phone number for calling, text messaging, and voicemail. It works on smartphones and computers, and syncs across your devices so you can use the app while on the go or at home.

You’re in control
Forward calls, text messages, and voicemail to any of your devices, and get spam filtered automatically. Block numbers you don’t want to hear from.

Backed up and searchable
Calls, text messages, and voicemails are stored and backed up to make it easy for you to search your history.

Chat in groups, with photos
Send group texts and share photos instantly.

Your voicemail, transcribed
Google Voice provides free voicemail transcriptions that you can read in the app or have sent to your email.

Cheap international calling
Make international calls at competitive rates without using your mobile data.

Keep in mind:
• Google Voice is currently only available in the US
• All calls made using Google Voice for iPhone use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan
• Calls are placed through a US-based Google Voice access number, which may incur costs (e.g. when traveling internationally)

SLOW
Crash captain on 6/24/2017
Tired of waiting for the app to catch up with EVERYTHING. Very laggy. Causes me to call the wrong person half the time because it refreshes right as I click to call.
Utterly useless
Reviewer8252N on 6/24/2017
I have no idea who's in charge of QA at Google but this app is absolutely useless for Google Voice. Right from the start, one can tell that the Chinese programmer kids in the sweatshops have no clue that mobile devices have a landscape mode. How dumb are they? Then Google illogically demands that I select a phone number to ring when my GV number is called. Why?? My GV is already set up and working, don't f*** with it. But I am not allowed to continue to the app unless I select some number. If I type in my own, that causes an error. LOL I just have to laugh at this point because these retarded monkeys have no clue how to make apps. And the marketing department divas only worry about adding bunch of colors to the UI to appease hipsters but usability has gone to shi*. I already reported these severe design flaws in the forums. We will see how long I will be without the ability to text from my GV #. And the newest update is the biggest f***-up of all. They made it horrendously slow and I see from other reviews that I am not alone in having to wait a minute or two for msgs to appear. Even worse, I have to tap "retry" several times after sending almost every message. That is a brand new bug so somebody f***ed up big time. C'mon, Google, if you want to spy on our conversations, at least make it convenient to us! :)
Slow
Scartaris12 on 6/24/2017
Super slow everything takes 5+ seconds from when you click on it. Worked better last year before all the updates.
Not Secure
UnknownAnonymousUser on 6/23/2017
No security, no encryption & no privacy. Better options exist for texting calling.
Loading is so slow
ZachKaiser on 6/23/2017
It takes 10s or even longer after entering the app to load call history, messages, etc up to date. Barely usable. This is unacceptable!
Completely unusable
Geoff Trowbridge on 6/22/2017
Good lord, this app went downhill fast. Used to be easy to navigate, responsive, and had sensible features that were easily accessible. Now it is sluggish to the point of being completely unusable, favorites are MIA, and you cannot delete voicemails without opening each one first and waiting patiently for the menus to respond. Utterly useless.
The absolute worst. Period.
Killing for love on 6/22/2017
Where to begin? I had hangouts and then it told me to upgrade to Google Voice because initiating a text using my google voice number on hangouts was near impossible. Then after switching to the Google Voice App it doesn't transfer my old Hangouts chats (really, how hard could it be?). Then there's a bug where you get an icon badge enumerating unread messages, you open the app, tap on the conversation, exit the app only to find the badge still displaying, then you have to repeat the process so the badge disappears. And now I can't swap over to Hangouts because...? Who knows! Fail fail fail. Hate this app.

I like it a lot!
Great Service. Unreliable App
cjaccino1 on 6/22/2017
I really like the service, but this app now crashes all the time. I would pay $20 for the app and a reasonable monthly if they would just get fully behind this app and service.
Doesn't really work even paying for it :(
Swivel28 on 6/22/2017
So it comes down to usually saying it is not working... when it works is nice, but usually just doesn't work at all...
Buggy...
iTunesRonald on 6/22/2017
What happened Google? Really buggy app, no dialer integration with iOS even though it's available to tie into, no favorites and very awkward interface. Longtime user, losing faith...
Bring back all view
Lmtmarc on 6/22/2017
I want all the text, voice mail and missed call in one view.
Love the GV service, Hate the non-responsive app
cjustinhall on 6/21/2017
The GV service - and web version - is feature rich and powerful. Love it and thank you! However, your iOS app dev team needs an overhaul. The iOS app is horrid: non-responsive interface, notifications that work 25% of the time, etc. The biggest issue with your latest bug fix is it takes 3 minutes to get into the app and read a message. Oh. And the app doesn't mark it read still! Please ask the QA team to return to work because I'm feeling they have taken the summer off.
Not very good
Kairi_Su on 6/20/2017
Crashes often. Unable to customize colors, tones, etc. Pictures rarely work.
Slow and not responsive
viblal on 6/20/2017
The app offers all functionality: text, voice call, voice mail, etc. but the interface is very slow in response. The keypad is very slow and failing numbers is a three step process. Somewhat frustrating to use the app. The only I keep on using it is because it offerS US/Canada calls.
1000x better on android...
Matt from Verizon on 6/20/2017
The app is glitchy and yes, it looks like the android version but putting them side by side makes you notice everything wrong with it. Switching between messages, dialer and voicemail tabs is laggy and can crash the app but my pet freakin peeve is when you read a message and it doesn't register that you've read it. So you go back into it and open it. It still won't register the message as read. You have open the message, back out and go back in 3 times before it will register the message as read. Really annoying. Although the functionality is there, the bugs make it a headache and I end up using my galaxy to check any activity because the iOS version is just too glitchy.
Extremely laggy
Nishbot on 6/20/2017
Guys, you're a $600B company. This is unacceptable.
Call Logs and outbound caller ID useless
Rannilas on 6/20/2017
When making a call, the ID on my iPhone 7 only displays Google's routing phone number, not the person I am trying to call. In the phone's call log, again only the fake Google number appears. Same usage on my Samsung Galaxy works the opposite as one would expect only displaying the intended party's information. Fix this.
No Longer Works
Catnip Toy on 6/20/2017
I can no longer send pictures and the constant crashing is really getting annoying. It has worked beautifully for years until now.
Calling app is so outdated
Pavan Raju on 6/19/2017
The call quality is very good but the app itself is very old... why doesn't the app have one touch calling option ... Why do I have to always go and wait till it goes to couple of touches before actual call
Finally...
MsBrandy247 on 6/19/2017
Been using google voice for yearssssssss now I've been waiting on picture messages forever. But where has the hold delete option gone. I do not want to see text messages from years ago in my thread. Having to go into the message and delete every individual text is crazy. Other than that I actually really like this update. You added reply option to the notifications but it doesn't work 99% of the time. Thinking I replied to a message only to look an hour lately and message says failed.
Still love Google Voice buuut...
...deadcheese... on 6/18/2017
How can you have a texting app that doesn't actually handle texts very well? Really, the refreshing and read/unread issues are major problems that have been there since the major update earlier this year. I hope they're working on it but it seems like the team is fixing minor issues while ignoring the elephant in the room.
Usability issues
Sctpdx on 6/18/2017
Now just crashes. This version is worthless. Hoped Google could do better. Must be short on cash.
Good, but should be better
dave-tx on 6/18/2017
Notifications are completely screwed up. The badge number doesn't change when something is read, you have to refresh multiple times to get it to finally update. Also, notifications don't work as well as gmail's - if a message is read on a different device, the notification count should be updated.
Slowest app ever!
Gshockneo on 6/18/2017
This is the slowest app ever!! Each tap takes at least 2-3 seconds to process. What the ef? The voice quality of international calls leaves much to be desirable.
Some Bugs 🐜🕷🐞
G-U-S on 6/18/2017
Text messages don't mark as "read" until you back out of the text and go back into the conversation. Voice calls have a noticeable delay from the time you say something to the time your words are heard. Overall this is a great concept. I'd rate a five if these two things were all fixed up!
still waiting...
roaringbranch on 6/17/2017
The incremental updates are not helping. Why is the response to every tap so slow? There can't be that much data to process. Please bring back favorites and a combined call/msg/vm inbox.
Unusable because it is so SLOW!
bscardin on 6/17/2017
I love google voice but this app just barely works. I have to wait 10 seconds between each tap in order to not inadvertently do stuff I don't want. Terrible.
Images won't send
Nalamonsterowl on 6/17/2017
So I read in AppSupport that GIFS over 2MB I believe will not send. I sent an image from my iPhone via text, its shows it has sent with a time stamp and the person I sent it to has yet to receive it. Should it show as sent of the file is too large? I recommend having an error message occur if an image didn't actually send.
I'm giving a 2, but may change after I see latest update.
chele6612 on 6/16/2017
I read a lot of comments on not being able to send GIFs & (IMO) junk like that. GV has always been a phone app, the text addition is nice, but I use for its (original) primary function as a phone app. As I said, I may edit, I'm more inclined to give it a 3 at least, but if it has turned into a text app w/phone fcn secondary, I'll be dropping. It. If you need to send GIFs & junk kind that, LINE & several other apps are more suited for that. Again, IMO!
Lovely app
rajgoaj on 6/16/2017
Works great and a must one.
Definitely on the right track but there's a long way to go
jtwise on 6/16/2017
I just wish g board would be able to post gifs. I wish I could post bitmojis. I wish this app were more customizable. Overall I'm really glad Google decided not to give up on Voice, but honestly a bit more effort is needed.
Very Slow App
Donnersson on 6/16/2017
Such a good App. Solves many of my problems, but unfortunately it is incredible slow and not accurate sometimes.
Love it! But please!
Motty Shain on 6/16/2017
I never used it before because the app was terrible. Now it's usable it's set up nicely and I use it as my primary phone number. But everything takes forever to load it's unresponsive. Every time I read a message and go outta the message I have to go back in and out for it to get marked as read. It just still needs a lot of work till perfect
Slow
Hgg123 on 6/16/2017
Since the update, the app has been very slow when opening or deleting things. And it's now so complicated with multiple places instead of all one inbox. It's only gotten worse with each update.
Worse after last update.
Khonstanz on 6/15/2017
I can get over not being able to send pics before this last update. But it takes so long for the messages to show in the feed (I get the notification that a new message has come through) but then I spend 2-5 minutes trying to see it in the feed (which makes it hard to talk to clients). I have to refresh so much that I find it faster to forward my messages. (Oh and I turned that feature off last week and it's still forwarding to the phone's text messages.) :/ how do I get it to stop?
Still not fully functional with Google's own Gboard
jkirk1626 on 6/15/2017
On balance, Google Voice is superior to Hangouts, esp with its Contacts integration and dialer. Another update, another missed opportunity to make compatible with insertion of Gboard GIFS and pics. After you open a text message, Google Voice will leave it marked unread, requiring you to reopen it to switch its status to read. Other commenters point this out. It took months for an update but no noticeable improvement. Still won't paste GIFs or pics from Gboard into a text. That was my issue, which I and others reported numerous times in the app feedback. You'd think a Google product's compatibility with its own keyboard would be a priority, but it isn't. Dev team is AWOL. Still won't copy and paste GIFs. Google Hangouts interfaces horribly with Contacts, but can work with Gboard and paste pics and GIFS, which Google Voice can't. Google Voice can interface terrifically with Contacts, but has the shortcomings listed below. The Valentine's Day 2017 update fixed no noticeable problems since the major overhaul of Jan 2017. Fail. Google Voice's inability to paste GIFS, and Google Hangouts' superior integration with Gmail, led me to switch back to Google Hangouts. Hoping Google Voice will become fully functional.
Read/unread notifications
pauliwago on 6/14/2017
Messages are never marked read on the first read. Have to go back several times to the message. Sometimes unread messages are shown as read too
😳
Carly09097 on 6/14/2017
I wish we could have more than 1 number. 😏😏😏😏😒😒
Lookin much better !
R.J. 254 on 6/14/2017
Way to go, Google! So glad to see this app has finally been cleaned up and perfected. Thank you!!
Awful Update
Kamgirsons on 6/14/2017
The current GV update is soooo slow to respond and display messages or anything, it drives me crazy. It is also unintuitive. Bring back the old version or fix this piece of garbage!!!
Update is awful
NoDice12345 on 6/14/2017
I have been using Google Voice since inception and the new mobile app is a complete disaster. I have no idea why they redesigned it and actually took features away. Removing favorites from a phone app? Requiring you to type in someone's name to dial somebody when I have a contact list in the hundreds? This is such a fail but unfortunately I have given out my Google voice number to hundreds of people so I need to live with it. They should cancel this update and revert back to the original until they can get their shop straight.
The worst update
GIOCOSA on 6/14/2017
Destroyed this app was better before
Don't use if you care about your privacy
tfisthisish on 6/14/2017
Will not give you a new number until you merge your real number with google voice, giving them full access to everything. And guess what you can't unlink your phone once it's done.
Abysmally slow!
BT2884 on 6/13/2017
Unbelievable that a company like Google would allow this quality actually be released! Is there ANY testing that happens before it is released? And if there is testing, clearly they didn't test any KPI's!!!! This sluggishness is ridiculous and unacceptable!
Issues
Jcohee4738 on 6/13/2017
Force closes & text message says I have a message unread even after reading it.
Spam filters are weak
elizareid on 6/13/2017
Why do so many spam calls still come through? And half of them are from Google services!! Come on, people... I'm on the National Do Not Call list. It's illegal to spam call me. Also, Messages that I have read don't Mark as read – sometimes I need to open and close the app and click on the message a few times before it marks it as red. This is annoying.
New ver getting better
dl97ag on 6/13/2017
Update 3: Be smarter by auto-filling recent recipients when typing in that field (rather than always showing same alpha-ordered matches). Clicking '+' should take directly to current tabbed function (rather than popping up to pick Message vs Call). After sending a Message, actually show what the user sent (rather than hiding it behind 'Type a message'). Bring back Quick Dial. Add Google's voice to text function. It beats Apple's hands down. Update 2: Keeping three stars as bottom "tab" area has subtle notification for e.g. new voicemails. Needs more pronounced look, similar to iOS badge app icons. Update: Three stars now. Like group messages and MMS Google finally added. Still need to fix read/unread status as reading and sometimes even replying to a text often keeps it unread, requiring another "read" to reflect correct status. Original: Like the UI updates. BUT now I have to "archive" ALL messages that were *previously archived* to clear out what used to be the Inbox?? Glad I only updated on test device so normal phone can still have old version that still knows what "Inbox" means.
Poor UI
Pushkar122454747 on 6/13/2017
Pathetic UI. Hard to imagine it's a google product.
Goodbye Voicemails
toyzs22 on 6/12/2017
Very buggy app. My voicemails are shown but cannot be played. I cannot mark anything as unread or use stars like we used to. Design is better, but functionality is far worse. Please fix ASAP Google! Received confirmation that Click-to-Call has been removed. Another App killed by Google! ☠️
