Description

"Named as iPad Game of the Year for a reason, Osmos is a fantastic game. A combination of physics, survival and classic eat em up" -- WeDoCode

Enter the absorbing world of Osmos: part ambient, cosmic simulator, and part Darwinistic game of survival. This multi-award-winning game features beautiful, physics-based gameplay, dreamlike visuals, and an atmospheric electronic soundtrack.

Your goal is to grow by absorbing smaller motes, but to propel yourself you must eject matter behind you, causing you to shrink. From this fundamental balance, Osmos leads the player through ambient playgrounds, deep solar systems, competitive petri dishes, dense mote-fields, and more.

Key features:
* Progress from serenely ambient levels into varied and challenging worlds. (47 levels plus bonus content.)
* Confront attractors, repulsors and intelligent motes with similar abilities and goals as you.
* Procedural content: play random versions of any level.
* Sublime electronic soundtrack by Loscil, Gas/High Skies, Julien Neto, Biosphere, and more.
* 11 glorious achievements, now integrated with Game Center.
* Dynamic time-warping: slow down the flow of time to outmaneuver agile opponents; speed it up to raise the challenge.
* Retina display support.
* 5 languages: English, French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Accolades:
* Winner of the IGF D2D Vision award.
* Winner of the "Best in Show" and "Fun/Compelling" awards at IndieCade.
* Independent Games Festival finalist in three categories: Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Excellence in Design and Technical Excellence
* Selected as one of the 2009 PAX 10
* ...and chosen by many websites in their best-of-year lists.

Great game...
DRnJoshuaTree on 11/11/2015
A very relaxing game. If they were adapted to work on the new AppleTV that would be outstanding!!!
Even better than IOS version
biglittlefeet on 7/28/2015
Loved the game for my iPhone, but stray touches sometimes got me in the weeds. I wondered what it would be like playing this with a touchpad, but it’s even more accurate this way. Graphics are splendid on my 13” retina display, love the soundtrack. I don’t think I’ll play it much on my phone anymore.
Needs one more thing...
J. E. Jacobs on 4/5/2013
and that is support for full screen, then it would be perfect. It's easier on the iPad because of the touch screen, but I still would like to play it in full screen on my MacBook Pro. Game works fine, no apparent problems.
Like it!
HoracioChavez on 3/24/2013
I was looking for something new for me, and this game really like me, it's not really adictive to me, but i'm gonna shere to my friends on facebook & twitter…
Version 1.8 graphics are off with AMD Radeon HD 6970M
Ron Reed on 12/29/2012
This is a great game and so unique in what it is about. I will say that some of the levels halfway in are kind of boring and too hard, so i've never gotten to a lot of probably interesting territory. The main point of this review is that the latest update diminished the graphics on my newish iMac - it is no longer entirely compatible. The game runs but a lot of the subtle details of the graphics are gone. The AMD Radeon HD 6970M video card has been checked as good, and I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. Too bad. It works fine on my laptop, and on my wife's iPad of course, but not on my big gorgeous 27 inch monitor.
Work of Art!
ChildrensWriter on 10/31/2012
This was the first game I played on our new iMac, and I was not disappointed. Splendid and beautiful game!
Doesn't have 10.8.2 support
jayzosx on 10/9/2012
I love this game, but after upgrading to Lion 10.8.2 and having the retina display, it doesn't work.
needs more levels
Mr. Sky 2012 on 9/23/2012
Great concept. Could use more levels, more features, more everything.
No Multiplayer??
Mercury Direct on 9/6/2012
My girlfriend and I have been obsessively playing the multiplayer version of Osmos on our iPhones since that feature was released. When we saw it was available for our Macs and it included Game Center, we bought it right away. We were SO disappointed to realize that it merely reports achievements to Game Center and is NOT multiplayer. I love playing Osmos and feel it's one of the best games in the app store. Sadly, I've got to give it only 4 stars until it actually allows multiplayer play through the Game Center.
Game center will not sign in nor will it exit
Hastetodaylikeitstomorrow on 8/31/2012
I loved playing this game on my friends iPad and was excited to play in on my computer. It downloaded really quickly but everytime I try to play Gamecenter pops up and won't sign in or when exited will pop right back up. What a waste of 10 bucks. I would like my money back or this bug fixed ASAP!
Simple & Fun, but over priced
Carson West on 8/20/2012
This game is simple and beautifully designed. It's fun for awhile but not something you could spend hours playing. Overall Osmos is a fun game but just a little over priced.
Mac version
Heisenburg von Calrissian on 8/14/2012
Bought this game on my iPad when it was first released, and I was blown away. I hesitated at the price, but bought it again for my MacBook Pro (late 2011), and I'm glad I did. It's a game that seems made for a touchscreen, but the controls for the MBP are better than I expected. The game itself loses none of its immersiveness and challenge between platforms. I agree with the reviewer who said that more command controls should be suported. But it's still a 5-star game. It's intelligent and fun, and the one and ONLY physics-based game that didn't bore/frustrate the bejebus out of me. Highly recommended!
Best game I have, but no multiplayer.
mikefdorst on 8/10/2012
I feel terrible giving this four stars because it really deserves six. It's the best game I've ever played on any apple device, hands down. I gave it four stars because I have the iPhone version, which includes multiplayer over Game Center. FUNNEST - THING - EVER. But there's no multiplayer for the Mac version! I'm really upset about this. And honestly I'd have to be to remove a star from this rating, it's the best game ever. Get it now.
:(

I so wanted to play this game and does not work at all
Fails to open
Clantyre on 7/27/2012
Does not open at all. Crashes every time.
Total battery hog
AustinWyatt on 6/7/2012
The game is fun, a nice way to waste time. Its a total battery hog. My brand new MacBook Air was depleted by 30% for less than 20 minutes of game time. No other programs running either.
very fun
C5frz on 5/29/2012
simple premise leading to a very deep and fun play experience.
Only so many life-forms out there to eat ...
Persistent Reader on 5/28/2012
This is real eye-candy and it is very engaging. I find that the music (very nice) is distorted by changing the time speed, so usually I mute the game. Unfortunately, after a week or two of addictive play, there are no more challenges. I have played all but two scenarios to completion - perhaps after completing those two (which I did not especially like), new scenarios will open up? (I really don't think so …) I like the game very well, but think that I could have used the $10 to buy ice cream and been just as happy.
No way to quickly restart a level
nickmain on 5/26/2012
The level instructions reappear every time you die and there is no way to quickly dismiss them. Also requires hitting the space-bar to start, which means you can't lean back and only use the mouse.
Not a puzzle, just a beautiful arcade
Siege Bird on 5/19/2012
I don't know who described this game as a puzzle. It is just an arcade like asteroids with nice graphics and soothing music. A big waste of money. If you are looking for a puzzle game don't buy this.
A lot of fun, until it isn
Spiffy678 on 5/2/2012
Osmos can be a lot of fun at first, but at some point, it gets repetitive and loses depth. I did enjoy it the first several days, but I guess I'm not feeling it as a hardcore devotee of the game. I stopped caring about the higher levels, but I may give it a go again sometime.
Good
Njordy on 1/14/2012
Could you please add iCloud syncing progress for my Macs and iOS?
Brilliant Mac App!!!
Chris.0917 on 12/27/2011
I bought Osmos for my iPhone and really loved it, but wasn't sure how it would be for the Mac. It is so beautiful on the larger screen and is easy to use with my Macbook Pro's trackpad! This is ONE OF THE BEST LOOKING AND SOUNDING GAMES!!! It is so immersive and the graphics look fantastic. The physics of the game is interesting it the sounds make it both relaxing and captivating. Buy it, especially if you liked the iPhone or iPad version.
Anyone obsessed with SCIENCE or the UNIVERSE...MUST HAVE!
Musicause on 11/23/2011
This game is seriously ridiculous!!! Ridiculous in a VERY AWESOME WAY. WOW, I wish I would have invented this game. There should be a game like this for EVERY MATHEMATICAL/SCIENTIFIC application with the actual equations present that make the physical motion or action happen in every mathematical and scientific medium possible. EVEN THEORETICAL PHYSICS...seriously folks...WELL WORTH THE 10 bucks!!! THANK YOU GAME MAKERS!!! I only wish I could do this somehow on a projector with the ipad for the control or droid/ iphone for the controls...
Meditative and Challenging
Stee-rider on 11/8/2011
This is a game I like to play late at night when things are quiet. Like so many excellent games, the concept is extremely simple but the actual gameplay requires thought and strategy. For all its simplicity it manages to come up with multiple different modes that each present their own challenges.Add to that the fact that it's beautiful to look at, and you have a real winner.
A beautiful game!
Dobie O'Sheen on 11/6/2011
A gorgeous game, that will challenge and enthrall you from the very start. I sat down to play this game for the first time and soon found that I had been at it for over two hours. The thing I find most fascinating and challenging about the game, is how well Hemishere incorporated Newton's laws of motion into how the orb you control moves during the game play. At first you will find it rather tricky to control your orb, but as they say, "practice makes perfect!" The music has a very calming effect as your frustrations build trying to maneuver your orb, called a Mote, around abosorbing smaller motes so your mote will grow. The music soothes away the ire that comes when your mote is eaten by a larger mote, and in general is just very pleasent to listen to on its own. I would say this a must have game for anyone, and the $9.99 price tag is very very reasonable. They should be charging at least $10.00!!! LOL
Incredibly Addictive!
glmaedl on 10/16/2011
This game is extremely well designed. The graphics are amazing and the game play really draws you in. It is a very ingenious concept that is unique; unlike any other I've played.
Most beautiful computer game I've seen!
Vellosia on 9/18/2011
This game has to have some of the best HD graphics I've seen in a downloadable game. Flawless gameplay, ambient mood, and challenging objectives make this perfect for anyone! Well worth the ten dollars.
Its alright
JLRoyston on 8/23/2011
I liked it at first but havent playe it since the firt day i bought it, not as much fun as i was expecting def. better games out there
Very relaxing with just the right level of challenge.
James McGinnis on 8/7/2011
This game will keep you hunting for the next level. There is just enough variation to keep it interesting. The gameplay is simple and very intuitive. As others have said, the beautiful visuals and soothing music keep you focused instead of being distracting like the overwrought visuals of so many other games. Highly recommended for $5.
awsome game
rvenom on 8/6/2011
I read reviews and figured what the heck let me try it and now im hooked....lol
Just get this
tonyswi on 7/29/2011
Just get this i'ts fantastic
PURELY DAZZLING!
ZachBerger on 7/22/2011
This game is a very ingenious way of putting the user "into the world of Osmos" to become the largest mote. It's simple, but yet intricate at the same time. And very hard! It keeps me entertained for hours. I would reccomend this to everyone!
Nothing more than Asteroids!
bripakes on 6/23/2011
Started out cool - then became more arcade than puzzle. Not interested in playing a new version of asteroids... I wished I knew that before spending $10. Hope this helps someone.
great app
Jarrodddd on 6/19/2011
i was scepticle about the price being 10 bucks but i took a chance and got it anyways...looks great, playes great, chalenging, great sound. decent amount of levels. cool affects. honistly i dont think there is anything bad about the game. im going to have to say this is the best app iv ever got. i got a civilazation 5 for 50 dollars and i like osmos better. civilazation is a great game and all but this is the best arcade game iv ever seen. spend the 10 lousy dollars and try it out for yourself....easy 5 stars
So Fun To Own...So Difficult To Understand
SettingSail on 4/18/2011
I got this game when it was on sale for $0.99 (it was $9.99, i think, when it first got added to the store). This game is REALLY DIFFICULT (which makes it ridiculously fun). However, It is REALLY DIFFICULT to get instructions. It literally took me 10 minutes to figure out how to exit. Come on Hemisphere Games, make the instructions and menu user friendly.
Awesome
Tonytool41 on 4/12/2011
The best game I have played on my Mac or my Ipod. <yes, thats a period .
dont like it
967yhvfje on 4/8/2011
what is so fun about this game seriously its boring and very expensive i want my money back
A nice tranquil game
Myra-n-Moki on 3/31/2011
Reminds me a little of Tranquility from tqworld (sadly closed their servers in 2010). A game you can both relax with, and be challenged by. Wish there were more levels and different challenges. A nice break from blasting zombie hordes.
Mildly Dissapointed
I'mDefAlwaysRight on 3/6/2011
Fun for a day!...Then I realized I had wasted $10. Don't get me wrong, this is still an entertaining game; just not for the price they are asking. I'd say 2.99 would be a price more suitable for a game consisting of sucking up smaller bubbles. Earlier reviews rave over this game's "stunning graphics" which really are good, especially when hooked up to a HDTV! The gameplay is simple yet entertaining. This being said, I would not recommend purchasing this game unless you have the extra flow to blow. I'm not dissing the game itself, because it really is satisfying (yet frustrating). Just saying, cut the price in half and you'll sell it 4 times as much. Bottom Line: Would not buy again simply because I felt it didn't live up to the price tag.
excellent game!
tlgee on 2/28/2011
nice relaxing zen type of game. love it!
Relaxing
Lazlo53 on 2/14/2011
This is a low intesity game. Great for playing when in a relaxed state. I'd like to see it more developed.
Too frustrating!
Sankeyes on 1/30/2011
This is not worth near $10. This is a great game the first few levels and it is fun, but then it just gets way too hard. In the end, it turned out to be a horrible game
Great Game!
Ejb12 on 1/17/2011
This is an overall great game and definately worth the money. One of the best mac apps I bought so far!
Very Kool

Osmos Remote Control
U-R-4-giv-N on 1/15/2011
Osmos is a great game! It distracted me when I was supposed to be studying for mid-terms :) I just have one suggestion--make it an option to control Osmos from the iPod Touch, kind of like Chopper 2. The controls could be tap to propel forward, pinch to zoom in and out, and flick to conrol time. I think that would make it a bit more interesting and fun. Other than that, great game! Four stars!
Best game in the store so far...
Scuzee on 1/12/2011
Very fun and well put together. Its nice when a game is fun and relaxing at the same time. the only problem ive seen is that the sound effects are a little screwy every once in a while
Great But Boring
engine1944 on 1/12/2011
Great graphics and sound but got bored after about 15 minutes.
Beautiful game!
TyWMick on 1/11/2011
This is the first "ambient game" I've ever played, and it certainly lives up to my expectations after seeing IGN decidedly name it the number one iOS game of all time. Beautiful visuals, a tranquil electronica soundtrack, and a simple gameplay concept render Osmos a relaxing, enjoyable experience. Though relatively, simple, however, it is not without challenge, as the more difficult levels take even more into account the varied mechanics of slowing and speeding up time, zooming in and out, and keeping track of the complicated physics in this closed system. The game even gets a little competitive when it introduces AI components. Furthermore, the ability to randomize any given level adds considerably to the replay value. Certainly a soothing diversion after a long day of classes.
It's a pretty good game app...
burningottsel on 1/11/2011
This game amazing, just watching the larger maps swirl and/or move is incredibly beutiful. I recomend this game to anyone looking for something fun, challenging, and slightely addictive.
