Great app used it in Los Angeles twice with ease
Don’t bother. Stick with the normal companies. Please trust me.

I rented a car through Turo hoping it would be nice to have a convertible in California since I was taking my mom on a much needed vacation. The car was nice, but not really that clean like you’d get at Hertz or Enterprise, and it also had a sloshing sound any time the car turned. But whatever - I was enjoying it for the most part. Then, the windshield wiper turned on and would not go off. I had to call for a tow, and had to waste 4 hours getting another car from another rental company. Then, the owner had the gall to blame me for damage that clearly had occurred during the tow. I ended up having to pay my $500 deductible plus $150 in Turo’s fees. Never again. Stick with the major companies. It’s a nice idea by concept but executed horrifically.
Great service :)

I’ve had a great experience the 3 times I’ve used Turo. Support is helpful too. Just like Airbnb, if you really vet each rental and read reviews carefully, you’ll have a great experience.
Great first experience

I needed an SUV for a trip to Colorado. It was so much less than a traditional car company. Everything went according to plan. I will use Turo again.
Lost money
Guysh2112 on 3/15/2018
My renter got a ticket while using our car. We were not informed of this citation. The renter who returned the car failed to mention it to both us and Turo. He had also returned our viable dirty and with no gas. Since we were out of town for much of December we had not seen any correspondences from the parking bureau. Because of this, the fine went unpaid beyond its due date. When we finally caught up with everything a late fee had already been assessed - in total, we had to pay $194 for the ticket and fees. Turo is rendering us liable for this misfortune. We made $84 on the rental, and had to pay $194 in tickets/fees. Guess we need to mark this down as a loss, or as a very expensive lesson.

Very good experience so far!

Horrible. Had a lady run a red light and him me. Wasn’t my fault. But Turo still charged me $500 dollars. It’s now been 48 hours and no one will respond to my 5 emails. They don’t have anyone you can talk to on the phone. Complete scam
Long way to go still
Bigstud4ubaby on 3/13/2018
Incorrect listing info, slow in app messaging, clunky check in and out process. Why do you suggest only 1 location for pick ups and drops, where’s the innovation? Where’s the value you should be providing for your substantial cut? See the 5 reasons why Turo disappoints on my “mixedwiki Turo review” blog article for more details. I want to try this again when it gets better!
App works great!

Not as easy (or cheap) as it seems
350ZPower on 3/9/2018
I had a terrible first experience with Turo today. First, I tried booking two different cars and was declined both time. Then some customer service guy started texting me to help me find a car, which is a nice gesture, I thought. Great, so he found me a car that I wanted for a good price, but in the end, the total cost was twice as high as I was told ($700 instead of $350). I called him back and he couldn’t give me a good explanation on why. Then was told to call a different customer support number to cancel the trip. DOUBLE CHECK THE FINAL CHARGES BEFORE YOU AGREE TO ANYTHING OVER PHONE OR TEXT!
If everything goes smoothly it’s great, but god help you if even one tiny thing goes wrong
Lkm3b on 3/9/2018
Renter waited until after I gave him a positive review to charge an extra cleaning fee (after I had the car detailed and returned spotless) and is claiming damages 3 days later. There seems to be a few owners in Honolulu taking advantage of used car lot inventory with this app. All attempts at contacting customer service were ignored. I will never use Turo again.
A hiccup and then a solution

We landed in Maui and the car we had intended to rent had been damaged by the previous renters. Luckily for us, the owner has a fleet of cars and quickly upgraded us to a slightly nicer but comparable car, just not a convertible. He dealt with Turo to switch the cars out on their end BUT it never showed up on my end of the app. So it was a bit unnerving driving a different car than what the Turo app indicated I was driving, even tho Turo support had emailed us with the change. Did we get a great car at a decent price from an accommodating owner? Yes. Was it perfect? No.

Awful -Ripoff - avoid , avoid, avoid. Horrible customer service. Shoddy cars. Rip off fees
Iggy alfasi on 3/8/2018
Rent from a normal agency not this company. You’ll save money and huge headaches. I rented a car that was dirty - the owner said I returned it dirty even though I had taken pictures when I picked up the car - fee? $100 on my cc even after their support acknowledged that the pix I sent them were at the time of pick up. On another occasion I rented a car for two days. The app would not allow me to modify the rental to only one day. when I arrived to pick up the car I realized I forgot my license. when I called the owner an hour later to return and get the car again she refused to give it to me! Turo would not cancel the fees! I was charged for two days of renting a car that I never drove. Fees for this scam? $144. In both instances I went back and forth via email for days and days with their support -they don’t get in the phone- and despite acknowledging that their app was buggy and should have let me cancel the reservation and that the owner should have given me the car - they didn’t refund my money. These kinds of things will NEVER happen with Hertz or Avis or a real rental car company. After these awful experiences I looked at rental agency prices and realized that on top of everything else I would have paid much less for the same size cars in brand new condition. I will never use Turo again and have initiated chargebacks on all their fees. What a hassle rip-off. These people don’t seem to realize that their Paying customer is the renter. Not the owner of the car. If you do try them whatever you do use a third party payment like Apple Pay or they will slam you with fees on your credit card and not give them back.
Simple, convenient, and very helpful
Proy7 on 3/8/2018
Turo is a great way to A) Test out a car I’m interested in buying for an extended test drive, so I can see what living with it is like. B) Provide a unique car for vacation transportation that I couldn’t get through a big rental agency. And C) Work with a reasonable renter, instead of a faceless company with black and white rules/requirements.
Bigmancamtattoo44 on 3/7/2018
This app is such a joke LOL half of these cars or from weirdos that have no business renting out their own private vehicle. Most of them are overpriced or something that you could go to a rental car place for. Plus when you try to look up a car in some major cities like Detroit, Houston, Dallas, and even Austin Texas there’s no expensive vehicles just a bunch of cheap crappy cars. This app is absolutely ridiculously dumb
Great app

Super handy for on-the-day car rentals!
nojust1weekplzstop on 3/6/2018
I would advise against using this app/service. The renters are shady af and their customer service just doesn’t have it together, or understand the basic functions of their own app. F-
Beware - use a normal rental company!

We had an uneventful trip, dropped off the car and after being rushed away before we could take photos, got a notice less than an 1hr later that the owner was reporting a scratch on the front. They didn’t bring anything up at the dropoff, didn’t let us examine the car or talk to us about the trip or ask about the damage AT ALL. The before photos show no damage bc the scratch is subtle and you can’t even see where it is unless you’re at a specific angle. Whatever you do TAKE A MILLION BILLION PICTURES but save yourself the drama and skip the app. It’s too easy for owners to take advantage of you and scam the lax system to pay for existing damages. Don’t know how much it will cost or even if the insurance will cover it but leaves me with a really bad feeling. Horrible end to our vacation.
Great service, Five Stars *****

Absolutely great experiences. I saved a boatload of money when I rented a Toyota Tacoma on Oahu and a Chevy Silverado on Kauai. Both vehicles were in good condition and the owners were courteous and helpful. I definitely recommend this service. I plan to use them on all future trips whenever possible. Thank you Turo! Five Stars!
Thieves, horrible first time experience.

I got charged without a single warning 75$ for being 30 minutes late on the return schedule, I did not get a hanger to write an honest review to the guy renting out the car, I’m never using this app again and I’m going to make sure I keep as many people I can from not using this app purely of how unfair this rental system is, I hope that 75$ was worth ripping me off for the amount of business I’ll make sure Turo doesn’t get. thanks a million and I’m going back to use HertZ.
Don’t do it it’s a big scam

I haven’t even rented a car though Turo and they charged my card plus they blocked my account Apple should look into them and have the app pulled down off of the site beware BIG SCAM! Apply at your own risk
Great app, service and support
PrawnSlap on 3/4/2018
You judge an app like this by its community and so far I have only experienced great car owners. The UI and functionality is great too, I haven’t noticed any bugs. My only (small) suggestion would be to allow attachments and pictures to be sent via the in-app chat to the renters/car owners.
The only way to rent

Customer service is awful
George Zakalyugin on 3/3/2018
Turo refuses to pay for car washes and tickets. Representatives declining the claim before reading a ticket. They hired all this new people who are giving you 24 hour window to submit a ticket and don’t even understand that ticket comes in two weeks since the renter gets it.
This company is a nightmare Fraud !

Charged $500, still don’t know why
N8Beats on 3/2/2018
I wouldn’t trust this app, they charged me $500 for a rental and have no phone number for customer service. It took 3 weeks to get them to refund me. I was really hoping Turo would be a great alternative for car rentals, but at least I can call or walk into a rental company if they accidentally charge my account. Turo had NO explanation as to why they charged me. Just apologized and said they credited my account.
Super experience

Turo is great. The app not so much.
Racso562 on 3/2/2018
I’ve been using Turo for a little while now and the app is now terrible. It won’t upload and constantly crashes and requires I log back in. It won’t load messages and won’t sent my messages. I have to constantly either completely reload the app or wait for it to crash, log back in and then do what I wanted to do.

I was hit when I was in a car, sent photos, police report, any information that was needed I was able to provide, next thing you know I get an email stating that I have to pay for the damages. Turo customer support is the absolute worst. Will not be using this crap ever again.
Renter beware.

First experience on Turo was me renting a Mazda from a guy in FL. I message him a week early telling him my flight details, “great, excited to see you” I get back. Follow up a day before my trip asking if everything was still OK. No answer. I’m literally on my plane from ISP to MCO. He texts “I have an emergency and am cancelling your trip” Ok, that could happen to anyone. Whatever. The guy relists his car for the SAME DAY. For 30% more. Turo gave a $30 credit, but this ordeal took 3 hours of my weekend long trip and cost me another $100 because the only available car as more expensive. The next guy was nice, but overall I can assure you next time I’ll spring the extra money up front for enterprise to ensure piece of mind.
Beware! I was charged $140 in “toll fees”
Izzy_1_2 on 3/1/2018
I have rented several cars from Turo, at first I loved the app! It was so convenient to scroll through and pick out a car for my vacations. Although I had 3 good experiences, the bad ones were REALLY BAD. A car owner was over 3 hours late to our agreed upon pick up time, resulting in me starting my vacation sitting in a sushi restaurant near LAX for those 3 hours. My first vacation day was suppose to be a relaxing drive down hwy 101 to San Diego. Instead, it was a stressful day of sitting and waiting as he text “almost there” for 3 hours, then getting such a late start the 2 hour drive was nearly 5 hours in the dark during evening traffic. The worst part of the experience was I was unaware I passed through a toll, the owner decided not to inform me of the toll notice he received until it had racked up $140 in late fees. The toll agency agreed to drop the fees and I would pay a reasonable $33 if the owner would cancel his $140 payment and let me pay the reduced fee. Turo support and the car owner were completely uncooperative and refused to do so. $140 to reimburse the car owner was just pulled from my account after I went back and forth between the toll agency and Turo support for over 2 hours. Beyond frustrating! Save your sanity and just use a reliable rental car agency!

I rented my Audi out for the weekend and got it back with no gas and with the distinct smell of black and milds! I have already had 2 details and spent $500 to try to get rid of the smell and it is still there! Awful, awful experience....
