Can’t connect without warning
Spotticus63 on 4/16/2018
There is no option to ignore the Security Certificate Warning in the preferences (this was in option in much older versions). So everytime I log into my work computer I have to bypass this warning. Very bothersome. Please add that feature back to allow connection without the security certificate warning.
Does not load
lrvquilter on 4/5/2018
I used this for two years and now after the most recent update, it does not work on my mac!!
hi

ok
Crashes sometimes but okay
Grimmgreen on 2/19/2018
Not sure why there are two of these apps in the App Store. I prefer this one since the other only lets you connect to one at a time. It works okay but it does crash occasionally (when you aren’t connected to any machines but have the app open) and you have to force quit. Either this needs an update to fix it or the other one needs to allow for multiple connections.
Good enough for daily use
NewAgeTradition on 2/18/2018
I’m using the MsRD8 App on a daily base. A new version has been released as a different app which allows you to migrate all your connections. The old one, this one still works just fine.
I love the lack of documentation
PhillipJ.Fry on 2/18/2018
I thought I was going to have an easy tie using this software, and wasn’t looking forward to no challenge. Luckily, there’s no documentation, and the only help offered online is out of date and factually wrong a out the options you’re given. I’ll be working on this for a while! Hooray! A challenge!
Keeps Me From Lugging My Work Laptop Home
Jay Jennings on 2/11/2018
I work for a large municipality IT department and when it’s my turn to be “on call” I no longer have to lug my (stinking) Windows laptop home with me because this cool tool allows me to remote in to my work computer (and other servers in the Muni) from my MacBook Pro. I’ve had no problems with the app, it just works the way it’s supposed to.
Works great, except won’t quit correctly
FussyZeus on 2/8/2018
Whenever I try to log out at the end of the day, this app CONSTANTLY hangs! Have to fiddle with it’s icon and Force Quit every time to get it to close all RDP windows and the connection Window. Really obnoxious issue with an otherwise excellent app.
High DPI & Cursor rendering
Capt. of Starship Earth on 2/6/2018
I have issues with this app working well on retina devices. When you do get the display aspects addressed there are rendering issues that effect the cursor. It doesn't make the app unusable just annoying to look at.
Use to work, now it does not
__Disappointed__ on 2/1/2018
Installed, worked fine. Cleaned my machine with fresh OSX install. Now Miscrosoft Remote Desktop shows “installed” in App store, and its not. So can’t use it anymore as I can’t download it.
Please change Command+W key behaivor

Folder redirection
Balapure on 12/19/2017
I am trying to enable folder redirection to copy some data from mac to a Windows server, when I try to click on + it does not load anything, I am not sure if other are facing the same problem.
Works great
DrMarti on 12/19/2017
This worked very well for me with no hassle at all. I’m very happy, I did not know I could remote into my electronic medical record from a Mac and am very happy that I was able to do so. It was identical to remoting in from a windows machine except maybe a little faster. Very pleased. I now don’t need to schlep my laptop home to get my work done after hours.
So terrible work with Third-party keyboard
RiceFang on 12/18/2017
When I use Third-party keyboard like ‘sougou’ , I can’t input capital letter IN CONFIG WINDOW! All the letter will switch to lowercase, it causes the passwords which include capital letters will be wrong to login Windows. But if I switch the keyboard to the system default keyboard, it works normal; Please check this bug.
Remote Desktop question
Mac MLC on 12/13/2017
The app works well, however I was wondering if it is possiable to use Mac dictation when using the app to conect to MS 2008 sever. The Mac dictaion is great but does not work once the remote desktop conection is established.
Continually Crashing after Upgrading to High Sierra
4nsix on 12/11/2017
I have been using MRD 8.0.43 for over a year with no problem until I upgraded to High Sierra. Now I am lucky to hold an RDP connection for more than 5 minutes without it crashing…...
Terrible
Mandi_______ on 12/6/2017
I hate PC’s, but almost all businesses use them. Therefore, I have to use this terrible application if I want to work from home. Thankfully, this application apparently does not know how to read the trackpad on my MacBook because it will not let me click, or edit anything without giving me the right click prompt of what I am attempting to do, rendering it entirely useless (unless I cared about updating/personalizing my work computer). For instance, when I simply click on the desktop background, it shows me the option screen e.g. display settings and personalization.
Cut and paste gone?
Corfy19 on 12/4/2017
Hello, I have been using this app for about a year now and it has been great but for some reason in the last update cut and paste from my computer to the Remote Desktop is broken? if this could be fixed I would be able to recommend but as it is now its crippled.
Almost there
BillRacine on 12/1/2017
This is one of the better RDP programs for the MAC I’ve seen. For the price, you can’t beat it. One thing I would really like to see added to it would be the ability to create credentials that I could then assign to each connection. This way, when I have to change my password to a particular environment, I change it once and everything in the group knows the new credentials.
Old version worked fine. This version too many additional issues
Joehatesthisnewcrummyversiapp on 11/25/2017
Like the title says, in this case, change is bad. I used the old version for years for work. Bought a new mac, now this junk won’t connect with the same (duplicative) credential requirements. Here goes additional $$$ to tech support and IT. They probably make apps terrible to support the industry, lol.
New “save” button in “Edit Remote Desktops"
Bernhard Boser on 11/21/2017
I could not even try it really. There is no save button in the “Edit Remote Desktops” dialog. Version 8 … wonder who tests this stuff.
Dropped Connection
Jwdodds on 11/20/2017
Been using for years, bugs here and there but they are constantly updating. The latest issue is making it unusable since upgrading to High Sierra on a 2012 mackbook pro retina. The connection freezes and become unresponsive every 30 seconds, (dead mouse, click but nothing happens) for about 5-10 seconds then starts working again, Real annoying when working on spreadsheets and email. It's not the ISP, dosen't matter if I’m connecting from home, work, airport or hotel, same result everytime.
Easy to use
TheDoctorBe on 11/20/2017
I use this every day at my work to log into my Windows PC. It seamlessly allows me to use Windows-only scientific software like SigmaPlot. Add my voice to the chorus of reviewers who think it’s ridiculous that the developers left out a simple “Save Configuration” when we are finished setting this app up - that little absurdity dropped my review by 1 star.
Sort of works
dme_mac on 11/17/2017
Was working flawlessly until I updated to High Sierra. Not it freezes if there is no activity in the remote session for maybe 30 - 45 seconds. Quitting and restarting entire app is necessary to restore function.
Remote Audio Input Doesn’t Work
chaosKnight411 on 11/16/2017
I am changing my review because it’s been close to a year and remote audio input still doesn’t work. I am on a Macbook Pro 2017. I’ve tried the built-in mic and a Logitech headset. Remote audio input isn’t working through the RDP connection. I can hear audio output, but microphone input isn’t being picked up. This is inconvenient, I hope it can be resolved.
Unreliable and Constant Issues
Cold-Oatmeal on 11/13/2017
Since this is one of the only clients out there, it makes it tough to complain. Like complaining about cold oatmeal whn you are starving. The app will not close a connection once opened. You either have to have someone login as you from another computer to kick you out or Force Quit the app. Clicking close the connection or closing the actual app does nothing. You will get an error when you eventually force quit or kick yourself out. Thereare many UX/UI issues, but at this point, I am willing to overlook them, I simply want it to work as expected for the basic connection and disconnection.
Save or Apply Button
Marxanth on 11/13/2017
Why does MS refuse to put Save or Apply button on configuration menus for any of their Mac software. I’m clicking around trying to figure out how to save a connection, its the Red close windows button. Wow MS.
Crappy Interface
Endymion42 on 11/10/2017
Microsoft needs some help in GUI design.
I keep getting this message: You are unable to redirect this folder
kyron73 on 11/7/2017
No matter what folder I choose I keep getting this message: "You are unable to redirect this folder. Please select a different folder and try again.” I can’t enable folder redirection, anyone else having this issue any solution? Thanks.
Needs folders and quick connect
N328KF on 11/2/2017
The client works reasonably well, but as others have said, it needs a quick connect function for people who manage lots of systems, along with folders. Perhaps the folder itself could function as a configuration point so that all entries contained within could share parameters.
Works great!
Brian_in_California on 10/29/2017
It took me just a few minutes to set up and it worked the very first time! My only suggestion is to make sure you read Microsoft’s doc first about how Mac keys are mapped to Windows keys. For example, the Mac Comand key is mapped to the Windows key. Once I got used to that everything was smooth sailing.
Folder redirection?
Ghenjei on 10/26/2017
Folder redirection doesn’t seem to work anymore. It used to work in the past.
Swap Control and Command keys
B. Schappel on 10/25/2017
I uset this to access Remote Apps from work. A very useful feature would be for the app to have a setting to swap the Control and Command keys. This would allow the standard Mac Command key combinations to “work” in Remote Desktops. With clipboard sync between Mac and RDP this seems like a natural option. Command-C to copy in Mac and Control-V to paste in Windows is cumbersome. Swapping these two modifier keys while in an RDP session would be ideal.
Can no longer login remotely after this update
Silas the Cat on 10/13/2017
Ever since I installed this latest update, like others have commented here, I can’t connect to my PC at work. I never had that issue prior to this upgrade though I don’t know if it’s a separate issue or not unless there was an opportunity to go back a verson to reinstall. Otherwise, I have had to email my coworkers to manually wake my machine for MS Remote Desktop to recognize it. I had already checked my PC’s power/sleep settings and those are fine so I don’t know what’s up with the bad connection.
USB
Tumberry on 10/12/2017
Any idea why the USB connected devices are not working. Example i use a USB plantronics Callisto p240 phone for skype for business to make phone calls, but when i do rdp the phone disconneced. But, when i plug a USB stick, it shows. Pretty strange.
Connecting RDP
dltkmp on 10/10/2017
Just recently when connecting, it goes to a screen the says Connecting RDP…. then it just sits there, no connection or anything. Help! I need this to VPN for work.
Remote audio seems to have died
MikeF74 on 10/9/2017
In the last minute after writing that title, I investigated a little further and it looks like it’s just Firefox that’s not giving audio over a remote session. I’ll leave this review for now in the off chance that it’s a Microsoft issue. Edit: Nevermind, I found that it’s a known issue in Firefox 56. I’ve changed my rating to reflect this. There is a workaround for those intersted (but involves weakening a security setting). I won’t repeat it here.
This app is great!
Sonnh78 on 10/9/2017
I use this app day by day for work. Easy to use.
tlsendpointexception:0
Scooby0344 on 10/7/2017
I can’t connect to my Windows 10 azure box. Everytime I get an alert window popup saying “TLSendpointexception:0” after it’s been “Connecting…” for about a minute.
May be lacking a few features but it works really well
Atlstjohn on 10/7/2017
Reading all of the other reviews I realize that this app doesn’t get the love it deserves. It’s frustrating that you have to define and save a connection before using it, but it’s SO head and shoulders above Microsoft’s own Remote Desktop. Scales for high DPI clients well. It’s super-stable, and it’s fast. I run paralllels on my MBP and default to using this over the native client every time. I can’t find fault since it works every time, and works well. The ideas put forth here by other reviewers would genuinely improve it so hopefully they’re given consideration.
No Save ???
Rupunzl on 10/1/2017
Like the other reviewer, I struggled with it for a while until I read HIS review sharing the ONLY way to save your connection deets - by closing the app! How is that supposed to be intuitive?
Version without Two Layer Autentication
Few places on 9/30/2017
I am currently running on version 8.0.39 and repent for updating from previous version which did not have two layer authentication. I am not getting sufficient help from my IT and it fails to VPN due to missing shared secret. It will be of great help to get the previous version which worked well for me without two layer authentication and successfully connect without any requirement on shared secret. I apologize for updating without reading release notes and it is a great lesson learnt for me.
does not work
MPB-art on 9/29/2017
I just down loaded the new version and it does not work and does not explain why, unable to connect to windows server , but was able to connect with a windows laptop

Why can’t Microsoft Figure out the MacOS UI?
philrodo1 on 9/28/2017
So you set up a new remote connection in this app. Once you populate all the fields, there’s no button or menu option to save the settings. After wasting a while on trying to figure out how to save the Remote Desktop configurations, I gave up and clicked on the Red Button to exit the configuration window. To my surprise, that saved the settings in the Microsoft Remote Desktop Window. Wwho would have thought that by exiting a window that would save the configuration data… Argghgh!!!
Better than the old program
sligett on 9/27/2017
This new app store Remote Desktop Connection app is better than what Microsoft used to provide, so I gave it one star. It is buggy and unMaclike. This needs to support multiple monitors (it’s so buggy), and high-resolution screens. It should act lke a Mac app. I’m sure it works well for some cases, but it feels as if it was not debugged with any thoroughness - as though the programmer was an intern who wrote it, and it worked for them, so they figured they were done.
Won't connect
cairastravis on 9/24/2017
Won't connect at all. Remote Desktop running from a Windows 10 Home VM on the same Mac connects fine.
Folders/Grouping please!
DCapp1212 on 9/21/2017
I use this app every day and it works well. I have a lot of customers that I use this app to connect to remotely, so I have a long list of desktops. I would love to see a folder option so I can group like desktops together and not just a long list that I have to scroll through.
Can’t use the keyboard anymore!
Baodng on 9/20/2017
After I've updated to this version, I can’t use my keyboard when remote a windows machine anymore, but before the update everything works fine.
