A must play survival game. Easy to play mindlessly but hard to put down. Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Fathom7811 on 1/19/2018
I absolutely love this game. My friend introduced it to me, and later i beat it and he told me he thought there was a a prequel. Turns out there is. If you thought this was hard, go play The Ensign.
Honestly, give it a chance
i_am_froot on 1/18/2018
A friend of mine introduced me to the desktop version back in March of 2016. I thought it was kind of far out there and wasn’t too intrigued. After playing it for a second day, I got hooked. Ever since then I’ve been trying to play it, but I’d misplace my save file and my laptop broke. When I saw this was offered on iOS three days ago, I had no hesitation in buying it. I was so eager to play, I finished it in 3 hours. It may not seem like very long, but I knew what I was doing. It was just as frustrating when I played it the first time, but even more enjoyable. I had beaten it twice on desktop. It seems vivid and confusing, but if you notice the different nuances and patterns, it all becomes clear. You don’t get a parade upon finishing the game, it’s better, you get wisdom and insight. I plan on finishing it 3 more times this week. This game is perfect for those who want a game that allows you to explore a landscape on a limited plane, or for people who just want a game to play on the train or during a union break. I highly recommend it
a GREAT game But
Xzekileeqee on 1/17/2018
I downloaded this because i loved the pc game but i feel like this one is less poetic and less relaxing then the online one. This one seems more fast paced and buggy then the slow relaxing pc game which is FINE but i payed for it so it’s a bit of a letdown.
Best game on the App Store.
ohsupalexx on 1/17/2018
I didn’t think I’d like this game, but after spending hours playing it and delving deeper into it, I’ve found myself to be a huge fan!! It’s truly a unique, different experience. I’m about to play it again! I highly recommend this.
Bellabearisacutie on 1/17/2018
Very interesting. I love how you can reset and when you finish you start all over again
Great experience
Stopoften on 1/16/2018
Definitely need patience and curiosity. Loved the different options for getting to the conclusion and to have a choice in approach. Recommend giving it a chance in order to appreciate the thought put into the details.
Such a great game! Give it a try!
AsPaPuLcE on 1/15/2018
Like many people, I was skeptical, I played and I quit, erased it about 2-3 years ago, remembered how great of a game it was while going through my downloaded apps. So I downloaded it again yesterday, I don’t know why I ever quit playing it. This has to be the most simple but detailed game. You don’t have much to go based off of but it’s enough for you to visualize, almost like reading a book. It’s a great game completely worth the money. The best part is when you beat it and find the hidden stuff!

Wow, flawlessly amazing
Apartfuzzball12 on 1/12/2018
I started playing the game, and soon I couldn’t put it down. The game kept me coming back with endless twists. I made it to the end and would really like to see some of those ideas implemented into a new game. Best of luck to the team, and thanks for an amazing game.
Cool game but...
Shagz on 1/12/2018
It is a fun little game with an interesting storyline. One problem is that the latest updates are not compatible with my iPhone 5 despite the game's graphics being very simple. Updates include continuity with the prequel app, so I won't be getting that I guess. Legacy devices beware.

Light the fire. 62 minutes as record time!
Visceral...the only word for this game.
JakeQ72 on 1/10/2018
It has been a while since I have enjoyed a game as thoroughly as this one. The story, revealed in pieces throughout makes the game. This game is absolute proof that you don’t need high end graphics and gimmicks to make a fun, addictive experience. Highly Recommended!
A well made game
ChicagoGupta on 1/7/2018
Really did not know what to expect - this is the first game I've gotten addicted to in a while. It's really mysterious and rewarding at the same time. There's no one right path - you can keep on exploring and experimenting and building. The game has lots of surprises that come at different times to keep things moving along. You get to be creative and each time you continue playing you'll encounter something new and different.
A truly satisfying experience
VipulVPatil on 1/3/2018
Got the new iPhone yesterday. So wanted to play some new games to enjoy the bigger screen. Came across this text based adventure and couldn’t resist. It had been a while since I last played a text based game and decided to give this a shot. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. The game is simple to begin and has an amazing progression. This can be a case in study for tutorial done right, without making it seem like a tutorial. What this game lacks in visuals, it more than makes up for it with its soul. A truly amazing experience. Can’t wait to start a new adventure.
Engaging Imaginary Imagery
Mtbjay on 1/3/2018
Read somewhere it was a top app. Thought I’d give it a go.... In the early 80’s, text adventure games were the precursors of modern, computer based, video games. Immediately, this reminded me of those early games - completely cerebral. Eventually, the game gives way to the current fad of rapid tapping to win battles, but all the while you’re gaining knowledge and playing with strategy. (So, this felt acceptable.) I was surprised at it’s subtle draw. I found myself wanting to play it, late at night, to wind down. At points I felt compelled to conquer the game, but could easily put it down. Starting up again was always easy. I welcomed that attribute more than I realized at first. The pacing is just right. (Good job, guys.) It’s a neat game and a nice change of pace from the typical, graphic intensive, games I usually play. I will likely seek more colorful renditions, of conceptually the same style of games like this, to play in the future.
Amir sounds like a tool

"I ported someone elses work to iOs and made 80k but my games arent selling and now I have to go work for real again 😭😭😭" that's the guy what made this app.
One of the best gaming experiences I have had
Hshsfhch on 12/30/2017
Great game. That is all I have to say. I was completely astonished. Okay I’m going to gather some wood now bye!
Absolutely Love It
BassMasterMahnee on 12/29/2017
I have no clue what's going on or what the hell happened, but this game is AWESOME!!!! I was hooked big time
What an experience
corey_hackethal on 12/29/2017
I remember as a small kid back in 9th grade when this game was released. It was a part of a free app of the week deal, and I loved checking out those games. This mobile game, unlike others, had a story to tell. As I grew older and can understand more than I used to in this game, I loved the tension that was released throughout this game and I am glad I revisited this masterpiece 4 years later. I can not wait to try out the prequel and the newer game that you have created. Again, 5 years from your amazing creation, job well done my good sir. Job well done.
OctoberVanity on 12/27/2017
This game is really cool! I kinda had to look up some stuff in order to fully get how to play. This game is really different and i tip my hat and Amir and Michael for making it. 👍🏼
Great game

Great game makes you really think. And the exploration is really fun. Slow at time but 100% worth your time.
The fire is roaring
Bobdolehail on 12/24/2017
May the fire keep you warm and light your path Seriously though this game is amazing, some people may not get it and vote it down... If you beat the game in just an hour, don’t feel any connection to the character or the world, are bored when you don’t have giant flashing lights or have a short attention span then this game will not be for you. Anyone else will not only enjoy it but will also understand why there are so many 5* votes, plus you will get some of the cryptic reviews. The dev is amazing and even though not all his games are for me I recommend you try them all!
Hard Mode Please!
AlyssOfSpades on 12/23/2017
Edit: I miss the old version! The one where you start off with nothing! If you could just make it so I could turn off getting those extra supplies at the start, I would be very grateful This is an amazing game. I go to it whenever I need something familiar and comforting, and it never lets me down. Amir has created a terrific world and combined it with a beautiful gameplay and an excellent story. It can be dark at times, but it's always worth a play through. I have his other two games as well and they're also fantastic. They're well worth it.
Just fun
Sebassono on 12/22/2017
No matter when I play this game I’m sucked into a world that feels so vivid with its destitute landscape. Just so much fun for anyone who is a old school RPG
What a game!
Application Launcher on 12/22/2017
I can't say enough about this one. It kept me up late in many nights, and the fact that VoiceOver support is well done goes a long way as well!
One of the best games ever!!!
Celery Giant on 12/21/2017
At first I was like what the hell is this, but after playing a while the game makes sense and you become very attached to the game. This game is amazing and definitely worth paying a dollar for.
Stunning, Amazing, Played a Million Times
Ikillsquids on 12/20/2017
How do you describe a masterpiece that doesn’t end? From the alternate endings, the threads connecting the ensign and a dark room, to the builder and humanity’s struggle to survive, this game can only be called stunning. Please, give it a chance! Try to survive on this dystopian world, make good choices and make horrible, monstrous ones. Learn the legacy of the wanderers, learn about the destruction of earth. Honestly I don’t know how to convince you of how wonderful this game is. 99¢ is literally pocket change. So it’s an app, whatever. This story is better than any book or movie you’ve seen in the past year. Try it for goodness sake. And play the ensign too!
Intriguing Game!
Jibjib5th on 12/19/2017
If you are looking for a good quality single player campaign game with a good story and an upgradeable character and don't mind a text base game then this is the game for you!
ShadedTrivia on 12/15/2017
This game is beautiful, it tells a tragic, somber, yet inspirational and introspective story in such a simple way. From the moment you begin the game you will notice that it is not akin to any other gaming experience. Many, will at this point give in and review bomb the app. However, give this game a shot and I guarantee that you will enjoy yourself. This game stands either as a resource management, explorative, or social commentary game. In the end, A Dark Room is what you make of it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. May the fire burn brightly for you, may it keep you warm.
So much fun
194820571046 on 12/13/2017
I’ve played through this game so many times, but nothing compares to discovering everything for the first time. Definitely one of my favorite iOS games P.S. I beat your high score, Amir - 77 minutes with no huts :)
Intriguingly unsettling.
Wtfcmon on 12/11/2017
Play it, just play it.
Hoodaspank on 12/10/2017
The game is excellent but Nietzsche is not. He lost the last 13 years of his life in an insane asylum. His good news is death, disorder, and an active embrace of chaos. I could go on but this is just a review. Jesus really does save (you from pessimism).
Too easy.
Barnettsaints on 12/6/2017
This game is not difficult and only mildly entertaining. I gave it two stars because of it’s unique platform, but the level of difficulty in completing the game merited fewer than two. Don’t spend more than a dollar on this game.
Great and Mysterious Storyline
Groundshaker14 on 12/3/2017
I had heard it was a text adventure game so I thought I’d download it to try. Seemed kinda dumb at first but the story developed and sucked me into what was going on... fantastically written and genius UX. You’ve gotta give it a shot and at least put 30 minutes of gameplay into it. Really good
Worth every penny
DoubleB33 on 12/2/2017
Beautifully written, amazingly deep, awesomely complex, and wonderfully constructed. There is nothing but love for this great game.
A spectacular experience I will never forget.
Buddy Boy88 on 11/29/2017
I’ve never written a review for a game but this game deserves it. A Dark Room is a masterpiece, I really don’t think I can write a review that portrays my appreciation for this game. The whole time I play from when I light the fire to when I watched the ending cutscene was just completely amazing. Best of wishes to Michael and Amir. Thank You.
A great adventure!

Found it very interesting and more enjoyable than most console games. Really stands out among all the other App Store games. Unique and original.
Great game
brave-fencer on 11/19/2017
I’ve played this game several times. Really fun and interesting narrative. UI is slightly pushed down on top of each other at the top on iPhone X. Not a big deal though.
Duby,A on 11/17/2017
Just play and keep playing read everything and have fun(?)!!! Worth every penny.
Really good
ThePutDown on 11/15/2017
Engaging through it all. This is one game that will never leave my phone. $2 really is a steal.
Loved this game!
Mrningstarxx on 11/13/2017
I absolutely loved this game. There needs to be more games like this. It is very simple in appearance but that’s what makes it brilliant and makes you use your imagination. Love love love
Surprising to the end!
WickedEmu on 11/12/2017
Found this game from an online recommendation and totally glad I tried it out! It's interesting and unique and totally worth the time spent! Very simple in set up but it's mysterious and keeps you hooked till the end!
Don’t quite until you’ve played more than 30 min
ShalaJC on 11/11/2017
The dark room is incredible, put some effort into the game, and you will thank the game gods you did.
Love mah pizza on 11/9/2017
Gave this game a shot. Was well worth the money! Wasn't expecting such a detailed story and characters. I was sad about the ending, it was a cliffhanger...
Please give this game a chance
_la.xoxo_ on 11/8/2017
Please give this game a chance it only asks for so little bit gives you so much in return. Playing in 2017 most games are all about having the best graphics, character development, and what not. But this game stayed simple. It allowed me to create my own world and question the reality around me. This game is strange. What world was this? And many others (thoughts) came to mind. It starts off slow but have patience. Patience is key. This game has taught me that. It has made me cry, smile, and feel lost. But remember if you’re every feeling lost... Stroke Fire... and keep playing. Note the developers: thank you for such a great game. You have sent me through a world of emotions. And am hopeful to the future. And once again thank you ~from a simple girl whose has been inspired.
