This thing is a literal maze trying to find the free edition as usual. This years fun additions include, forcing you to use Plus and then having to backtrack in order to proceed with Free, and labeling their paid services as Start for Free. They are required by the government to offer a free alternative and as usual they push what they can get away with every year. But I almost alway get through it and it’s usually still better than filling in the mail.
This is a scam!!!
karlangas1981 on 3/16/2018
I’m soooooooo upset! I downloaded the app to do my taxes quickly. The program kept telling me to fix a line regarding foreign income. I do not have any foreign income!!!! Anyways it ended up somehow charging me for the deluxe plan. When I realized it did that I tried to cancel To no avail. Now, I can’t delete my tax information. What a scam!!!! I’m super upset with the app. I’ll never use turbo tax ever again!!!
Tricks on tricks

Started by saying 0 to file state and federal tax. Great. I payed for PLUS to have my info transferred. Great. My wife had an HSA that she put only $115 in so it told me I was REQUIRED to have DELUXE, so I paid for that. When I was done with both returns it tells me I can pay 39.99 to file my state and federal together, or I have to start my state from scratch and file separately! I just paid a lot of money for the easy transfer of basic info, and right before I’m about to file, I have to pay again or I lose a feature I’ve already paid for? This makes no sense. I will never use turbo tax again. Thanks for providing an example of bad business. The kicker: I was about have them deduct what I owed them straight from my refund. This cost 39.99 as well. They NEVER say that up front. Edit after developer response: I’m sure the “appropriate teams” will know what to do. Also, I’m sure that nothing will be done, because you already have my money.

I’ve been waiting for the status on the app to update and it never did. Checked with the irs website and my refund was deposited a week ago...the app still hasn’t changed. So between it not updating its status and trying to force you to spend money or make it hell to use the app...I’m going to be finding a new way to file next year. TurboTax isn’t user friendly Edit: pretty much they admit their tracker is useless by saying “...they (the government) take over the status update duties, since they hold the purse strings. Use the IRS where’s my refund site for the latest word on your refund...” Yea, I’m going somewhere else. Why offer features you know won’t work?
Svetify on 3/16/2018
They will never send you a receipt of the services they will ask you to pay after you finish filing your taxes. You’d think you’ll only pay $36.99, but they actually sneaked other services without your notice and without even sending a receipt or breakdown of services you have to pay for. I filed last January, and this March I received an email with the order details since my federal refund is still not refunded back to me. I found out I that I have to pay $100+ just for the filing of my taxes. It showed that I had to pay for 36.99 for state tax prep, 39.99 for deluxe tax prep, and 44.99 for premium service with refund process which I never selected while using the app. What a scam! Everything is so redundant! I called them and they said the can’t do anything about it and cannot take any of the services out anymore because I already filed my tax. Never going to use this for my next tax refund and never going to recommend this product! Check their disclosures that says prices may change without notice!

You guys didn’t guide me in the right direction whatsoever. My entire tax return got screwed up because it was so UNCLEAR what they actually needed. The Obamacare/medical insurance thing is such a crap show, it ruined my taxes completely and I had to amend with a different company. I’m extremely unhappy that TurboTax is going to automatically be taking $30 out my account next month because my federal never came in due to their crap service. I have no money to begin with. I’m on maternity leave without pay and you’re literally about to take half of what’s in my account for your mistake. I have an infant. I needed that return. You, As a company need to understand that there’s people that rely on their tax returns. Nobody has time for errors like this because you failed to disclose. I’m so disappointed. I’ve been using TurboTax for the last few years. Last year it failed me and this year it was a big FAIL again. Never again. There’s a reason why we lay good money for good taxes. Goodbye TT.
Or nah

Lol don’t ask me if I want to do the free option and then automatically enroll me in the $30 option. Seriously?

I hate taxes, but I love Turbo Tax. Let me tell you, I never leave reviews unless I'm passionate about something (positive or negative). I feel like I'm pretty clueless about doing taxes and other adult things in general... so doing my taxes sounds really daunting and like it would take a long time. LISTEN. I just put brownies in the oven and finished my taxes before the brownies were even done baking. WHAT! I've used Turbo Tax three years in a row and honestly I'll probably never use anything else. Shout out to Turbo Tax for being the real MVP.

Using this app is life changing! It is very easy to understand what to do and where the information is needed. The process of snapping your informing with a touch of a button is genius! Thank you TURBOTAX

I did my tax through turbo tax, payed 150$ which I don’t really care about. WHAT I DO CARE ABOUT, is waiting 3 weeks .! To receive a letter from the IRS saying I needed to verify my identity, so I called and what do they say .? TURBO TAX CHANGED THE ROUTING NUMBER AND ACCOUNT NUMBER ON YOUR APPLICATION WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION, so I spoke with the manager over the phone and since it’s AGAINST LAW they mailed my return in check through mail and said I’ll have to wait 6-9 weeks to receive it. So 3 weeks a waste of time. THEY ACCEPT YOUR APPLICATION BUT YOU MUST WAIT TO BE APPROVED ( That’s the catch line ) IF YOU KNOW A PERSONAL ACCOUNTANT. GO TO THEM. It will save you time and money. Huge disappointment. NO HELP FROM THEM. THEYRE RUDE OVER THE PHONE AND TELL YOU TO VISIT THE WEBSITE AS A WAY OUT. My tax guy charges me 100$ and it’s in MY ACCOUNT 2 WEEKS MAX
What is going on

This app has really gone down the sinker. I’ve used turbo tax for over 5 yrs and when I first used it, it used to be FREE. Then they added audit protection. Then there’s a fee to get it expressed to my bank account when I really don’t want it expressed I just want it direct deposit so I don’t have to go into a check cashing or wait an additional three days for the bank to clear it. I spent about 150 to file Also I literally filed the first day possible and by Jan 2 I actually had my taxes completed. They just couldn’t be processed yet My state hasn’t come in yet and it’s the middle of March wth !!!!! Also after I punch my pin it the screen is a big blank white screen. So explain how am I supposed to check up on my taxes
Unnecessary fees; horrible compared to last year
kkren on 3/13/2018
I have used TurboTax repeatedly over the years, including last year, and had a wonderful experience. This year their “assessment” said that I needed to pay $59.99 for the Deluxe version in order to secure my maximum refund. I stupidly trusted their recommendation only to discover that I received the exact same refund I would have received if I had stayed with the free version (my state does not have a state income tax). They then encourage you to have the fee deducted from your refund, then later on in the process tell you that they will charge you $39.99 to do so, resulting in a total of $100. Later in the process IF YOU READ THE FINE PRINT you’ll discover that that $39.99 fee is solely to pay them their $59.99 and NOT a fee to have your refund direct deposited to your bank account as the original description leads you to believe. Once you realize this and try to change it to Apple Pay or credit card payment it is very difficult to do so, and that’s if you’re lucky enough to catch this before you submit your return—if you don’t it’s too late to do so. Fortunately after spending an additional hour in the app I was able to make a change. This is so misleading that I would almost characterize it as a scam. Not only will I will NEVER use TurboTax again, I will go out of my way and incur any necessary additional expense to avoid using any Intuit product again—all due to this this experience. I am absolutely disgusted with this company. This is the kind of crap scammers pull. It shouldn’t be happening when dealing with a supposedly reputable company.
Love it .

isemakov on 3/12/2018
It would be a nice app if it was not trying to rip you of for something as simple as tax return refund. Bum! And you need to pay for “Delux” version to claim that! How come???? You promised to do everything for free if I file before 15-th of March!!!
BlenardZ on 3/12/2018
I gave a shot to the app. After all we are in the 21st century. I started my return at $35 and ended it with $119 state not included. If you go to Costco same package would cost less than $60. I understand convenience but this is more like bait and switch. Charge more after you put the effort in. Not worth it or fair - don’t waste time in this. Go for brick and mortar version- it is cheaper even if you have to buy the DVD’s reader.
Total Rip off
dinkytwinky on 3/12/2018
Have used TurboTax deluxe for years by using the disk and was able to purchase for $49 that included a federal e-file and I would mail in the state or deliver in person. Now I upgraded my computer (iPad) and can only download your product. Cost is $59 and state forms and filing is extra . Greed should be include in the product name. I will now use Another company that has a fair price and performs just as well.
S1ssy3 on 3/12/2018
Thought I would give it another try.....never again! Response time is very, very slow! I have a New computer, high speed wireless connection from my home office, no contention with other devices! You screwed us over a couple of years ago, now screwing us over again with minimal server/app processing capacity. “Intuit.com is not responding due to a long-running script” is just a way to placate the user into the actin is being processed. 5 minutes to process a long running script. Really? Never! Never again. Don’t see my feedback!?
kikavilla87 on 3/12/2018
They are just trying to find ways to make you pay one way or another! I keep getting an error message that my exile didn’t go through ! Yeah of course after I told them several times I want the free version! And of course you have to pay 30 dollars to get a representative! I’m not giving them my money I’ll just file with the free version of hnr block!
Doc D.C. on 3/10/2018
If you trade with Nadex, the mobile app is not for you. You can’t enter the information for section 11 from you 1099-B into the field on the app. Neither can you print out the form to enter it by hand like Turbotax says to do. I guess I will go back to filing on the computer.
The Effey on 3/10/2018
I’ve always used TurboTax. This year I was charged $108 I said ok. Let’s do it. It didn’t say anywhere I was gonna get charged again $40 for something it never said anything about. Everyone I’ve referred to TurboTax I’ll turn them away. Horrible app. Be upfront about what the costumers paying for. Bogus.
Go away

It was excellent I used the paid version this year, and the free version last year. Two years in a row I’ve used this app with no types of issues, easy to use. All you got to do is fill in your information correctly, remember to double check your W2 information, read the disclosures carefully, take your time, and you should have a good experience like I did two years straight. Thank you Turbo Tax I’m definitely using your app next year!
Use to love TurboTax!

But unfortunately it just isn’t for me anymore. Tried to file my taxes and got to the end saying I need to upgrade to deluxe so I can file a 1099. I was boggled. So I cleared and started over only to keep running into that problem. So I upgraded thinking “f*** it” and this app has the nerve to not have me to fill out anything!! It just takes me straight to filing my taxes finally! Low dirty a** trick just to get me to pay to file. I cleared my profile and uninstalled the app. Take care TurboTax. Rip off someone else.
Charged me $100
JaKeechwa on 3/7/2018

Don’t use this service

Cause I used turbo tax I may not get my refund till April, no email notifications, never gave me complete information on what I had requested.. terrible service lots of disappointments
Dave36945 on 3/6/2018
Anybody else get screwed by Turbo Tax this year?? When it was all said and done I ended up having to pay $179.96to TURBO TAX...$79.98 to file state, $59 for federal because I had a “special case” and $39.99 just for the OPTION to pay them with my refund! Not sure what’s going on with Turbo Tax this year, but I think I’ll take my services elsewhere next time. Sad part is, I used to recommend them to other people, well not anymore. Words cannot express how upset I am. All I have to say is if you’re considering using them to file your taxes this year, THINK TWICE!!!

Selected the free option and completely filled out all of the information then they waited until the end, literally the last 3 steps, to conveniently let me know that I would have to pay them more than $100 to file my taxes and get my return back.
Unhelpful virtual assistant
willirodri on 3/5/2018
I tried to ask it a question about my tax returns, it gave me a number. I called and it just wanted to either text/email information about what could possibly be wrong. I decided to try another question and yet the same thing. It’s getting ridiculous! I might have to amend my returns and refine because this is Olán unhelpful and unsatisfactory.

Wow this company is horrible. I feel like I’ve been violated after the abuse I just took from their fees. I have a simple tax return and next thin you know I’m paying turbo tax 200$ for them to right literally a summer jobs income on a line. What a joke. And the whole process they keep telling you that your getting all this money and then at the end they hit you with these fees that came out of the cut. I felt line I just bought a car straight from the dealership. Absolutely horrible I recommend another place or doing them yourself.
Confusing 5 hour experience
Mmiiapapia on 3/5/2018
I’ve filed my taxes with them before and it was fine because my company paid taxes on my tips for me but, if you’re a tipped worker and have allocated tips make sure to check the box that says you made unreported tips but that it was less than $20 a month if your company does in fact assume you made allocated tips and you do not have a log of your tips for the year. Otherwise, this will try to force you to upgrade to the deluxe version. I couldn’t find this in any of their unhelpful FQAs but I eventually figured it out on my own because you cant call or talk to a real person unless you pay for an upgrade or wait forever for them to reply to an email. Very time consuming.
Mcfeces on 3/5/2018
I’ve always been a fan of TurboTax. In fact the only time I’ve ever had any bad experience with taxes is when I hired someone else to do them. I love how the app involves the finger print scanner/forces you to scan it whenever you reopen it. I thought it make the app lag, but it takes less than half a second before I’m back in.

The process of filing my taxes was convenient and simple. A breeze. I opted to use the Plus service to import my info and save time. At the beginning of the process they say don’t bother getting your wallet, we’ll deduct the funds from your return. Sounds easy enough right? Wrong. As soon as you go through all the process and get ready to file, they hit you with only two options to pay. Apple Pay and refund deduction. I don’t use Apple Pay so that leaves me with one choice. Only problem is now they’re saying they’re going to charge $39.99 and not the $29.99 for the Plus service I opted for. Frustrated I just decided to eat the extra $10 charge and chalk it up to them being untrustworthy and forthcoming with the price. Go to submit it and on the final receipt breakdown find out that the $39.99 was a few for just deducting from my return. So it was charged IN ADDITION to the $29.99 I selected for the Plus service. So $30 for convenience just became $70 for gross negligence and just straight up being lied to and misled about pricing. I am absolutely disgusted by this. I feel inclined to steer Family and friends away from Turbo Tax after this experience and I’ve used the software for the past 15 years. I didn’t heed the negative reviews posted by others. Kicking myself now. That extra surprise $40 may not seem like a lot for some but for some of us it makes a big difference. And unless Turbo Tax makes things right or changes the way they disclose that information to their customers, I won’t be back.
Just go with TurboTax
